My second favorite spot in Utah is Tony Grove Lake, located in Logan canyon. This dive is not a very deep dive, in that most of the things to see are in about 18 feet of water, but the amount of fish and plant life can keep you interested for a long time.
The lake is in a beautiful alpine setting, so even if you have
non-divers along, there is plenty to do.
Underneath the water is no less beautiful. There are tall
weeds stretching to the surface, along with all varieties of trout. Here you see an
albino trout. The are unusually playful in that they will come right up to you.
You can even pet them!
This lake is extremely high in altitude. Therefore special precautions take effect. Further, the water is rather cold, so a full wetsuit and hood are required. I usually put in at the canoe launching point. Head towards the shore that is directly opposite of this point. You will encounter an old submerged shoreline in about 15 feet of water. Follow this underwater shoreline in either direction. Just make sure you know where to enter back into the weed maze, and have a proper compass bearing. No motorized boats are allowed on this lake, so you don't have to worry about getting run over.
