This is the entrance to Polygamy's End Cave. It is located
high up in the mountains of Utah in a particularly beautiful alpine setting. As you
can see, the entrance is rather narrow (it is just to the right of the helmet).
Heavier cavers beware! Many larger cavers never even make it through the entrance.
Once you are through the tight entrance (on rope), you drop into a series of rappels down several pits. This is someone reaching the bottom of the first pitch, which is approximately 60 to 80 feet tall.
At the bottom of this first pit, off to the side, is a small room with a few decorations. This is the last room you can visit until you have completed a series of long rappels and reached the bottom of the cave.
After the last big pit (over 100 feet free), you reach the bottom of polygamy's end. I placed a register at the bottom of this cave four years ago. Last time I visited the cave (1999), only one other person has signed it.
After a long trip in the deep and cold, you finally squeeze your way back into the brightness of the sun. The tricky part is that you are still on rope, and there is very little purchase for you feet beneath you. One last challenge in a very interesting cave. This cave has very little horizontal extent, considering it is over 500 feet deep!
