Honalee Cave

The entrance area of Honalee Cave

Honalee Cave, actually located in Idaho, is an impressive feature.   The entire basin's water flows from the surrounding mountains into this entrance.   It immediately drops into a fissure pit, which is around 80 feet high.  At the bottom of this pit, it goes into an extremely tight crawl that only the smallest of cavers can fit into.  We haveAl Hinman at bottom of entrance pit contemplated how to widen this entrance so that more 'normal' cavers can gain access.

Lizard at the bottom of the pit

On one trip, we found this lizard that had apparently been washed into the cave sometime past.

This cave is one of my ongoing projects for exploration.  After the tight crawl, it opens up into a large room.  Wedged up high in the ceiling, you can see barbed wire.  That means that the water level must fill the entire room.   The only problem is finding cavers crazy enough and small enough to navigate these extremely tight passages.
