Flaming Gorge

The shoreline along Mustang Bay provides a great spot to put the gear together, as well as enjoying the sun.  Once you leave the shore, you drop into about 25 feet of water over sandstone ledges.  If you follow the bay out to open water, you encounter a ledge that rapidly drops to around 65 feet.  We usually then follow the overhanging sandstone cliffs that veer off to the left.

I stayed at the Mustang Ridge campground, and did the diving right near the swimming area there.  Be extremely careful of boaters there.  They have no idea what a dive flag means.  I suggest surfacing as close to the shore as possible.  We surfaced once to find a jet skier using our flags as a slalom course.....  The temp in the 30 foot range was warm enough not to need a hood.  If you are dropping down to the lower 60foot plus level, a hood would be a good idea.
